CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A space station astronaut celebrates his 50th birthday with the coolest gift ever – a supply ship carrying ice cream and other treats.

SpaceX’s latest delivery of cargo appeared aboard the International Space Station on Monday after a day in transit. It was NASA astronaut Megan McArthur who oversaw the automatic docking.

“No one had ever sent me a spaceship for my birthday before. I appreciate it,” he said after the capsule arrived.

Launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on Sunday, the capsule contains lemons, cherry tomatoes, avocados and ice cream, as well as several tons of research and other gear for McArthur and his crew of six.

The shipment arrived just days before the first of three spacewalks.

Starting Friday, the two Russians on board will do back-to-back spacewalks to equip a new lab, which arrives in July.

Then, a Japanese-French spacewalk duo will depart from September 12 to install a bracket for new solar panels coming next year. The NASA-led spacewalk was supposed to take place last week, but was delayed after US spacewalker Mark Vande Hei suffered a pinched nerve in his neck. Station managers chose to replace him with French astronaut Thomas Pesquet.
