“Because of my time at MIT, I’ve had the opportunity and training to work with some of the smartest people in my career,” says Amit Sinha, technical director and head of research and development, operations and customer service at Zscaler. cloud-based information security company. “Also, my friends and colleagues think I’m smarter than I really am!” Kidding aside, he and his wife, Deepali, valued their time at Cambridge so much that they decided to express their appreciation by establishing a presidential fellowship for international postgraduate students in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Change driven by people. “MIT is a magnet for smart, passionate, and driven people who refuse to accept the status quo,” Amit says. “MIT also gives them the opportunity to interact with others who have an insatiable curiosity and a relentless drive to solve challenging problems.” The two understand that cost can be a barrier factor, especially for international students. “We hope our graduate scholarship can remove the financial barrier to deserving international students and allow them to fulfill their dreams of doing academics and research at MIT,” he says.

By paying upfront. Amit says he wouldn’t have been able to get into MIT without the financial aid he received. “In the future, I would love to see how these young engineers supported by our scholarship open up to the world and make a big difference,” he says. “Maybe they’ll come back and build friendships for posterity.”
