This weekend, kids all over the country started acting strangely like they came out of a trance. They went around their house. They started hanging out with their parents. They powered electronics long neglected in the pursuit of entertainment. Some even – out of breath! – went out.

Is he guilty of his spooky behavior? Roblox or lack thereof.

Roblox, game platform wildly popular with kids, especially those aged 9 to 12 were taken offline on Thursday afternoon. Attempts to use the website resulted in only one message: “We’re making things more awesome. He’ll be back soon.”

on sunday morning, Roblox’s official Twitter account wrote He said the company has identified “the root cause and solution” and is working to restore the platform. Hours later, the company tweeted that it was “progressively bringing the regions back online.”

A blocky, colorful online universe home to millions of unique games created by indie developers, some of them young adults and even teenagers, the platform attracts more than 43 million players every day. So social media soon flooded with terrified kids who couldn’t log in, and frustrated parents demanding answers.

A Roblox spokesperson cited the company’s tweets but did not comment further. The company also denied a viral rumor that a Chipotle promotion that started shortly before the outage caused the platform to crash. Roblox tweeted on Friday that “this outage is not related to any particular experience or partnership on the platform.”

Meanwhile, parents had to deal with stressful children. In Aliso Viejo, California, Harper Deal, 9, watches TV, browses TikTok, and decorates her house for Halloween. He usually plays Roblox with his cousin who lives out of state.

“When Roblox shut down, I didn’t really talk to him that much,” Harper said in an interview, before heading to his room to check if the platform was back online. “I do not know what to do.”

Harper’s mother, Aishia Deal, noticed that Harper was exhibiting some strange behavior: “Yesterday, he and his best friend really had to go out and play,” she said.

Normally, Mrs. Deal said that Harper comes home from school and immediately enters the online universe with her friends, sometimes without even stopping to eat.

“That’s what they do, so they got a little lost,” he said. “I’ve never seen my daughter this much in one day.”

Megan Letter, a YouTube host and Roblox game developer, said she’s been receiving frantic tweets from kids wondering if the platform will ever return.

“There’s some panic, but that’s normal in kids,” he said. “Your whole life is Roblox; that’s all you know. You live Roblox, you eat, you breathe, so it gets a little stressful when you suddenly get out of your routine.”

Garvey Mortley, 13, in Bethesda, Md. was also trying to find a way to pass the time.

“I didn’t really have any Halloween plans before – my only plan was to play Roblox, so it kind of got screwed up,” he said.

Garvey’s mother, Amber Coleman-Mortley, said she used the cut as an opportunity to teach Garvey how companies’ problems could affect stocks. Roblox went public on March – and the ripple effects these problems can have on people.

“It’s the end of the month, people have to pay their bills and if their only income is Roblox, that’s a problem,” Garvey said.

Austin Enders, 23, from Indiana, relies on revenue from Roblox game development and two YouTube channels associated with the platform for his livelihood. Mr Enders said he had saved enough money to avoid anything troubling, but said the situation “still stinks a bit”.

Ammon Runger, a 16-year-old developer, said Halloween weekend was “the worst time this could happen” because of the many special Halloween-themed events that developers have planned for their game. He said the developers estimate that millions of dollars in revenue have been lost since the outage began.

Despite the presence of Halloween festivities, fun-seeking kids this weekend seemed more interested in finding something that might come close to emulating the feeling of playing Roblox.

“It’s too late to be kidding or kidding because I don’t have a costume,” Garvey said. “I guess I’ll play other games like Animal Crossing.”
