Yankee Swap, also called the White Elephant party by many, is when everyone brings a gift to the party at a certain price range. Guests draw a number, which determines the order in which people open their presents. Guests can choose to steal a gift from someone who opened it before them (and that person chooses a new gift). The host usually sets a limit on how many times someone can steal a gift (otherwise the party would go on forever!).
Sometimes a “White Elephant” party can mean the gift is funny or something no one wants. Many people in the south also call it a Dirty Santa party. If you are unsure, clarify with the host!
