Chateau de Manissy Tavel Cuvée des Lys 2020, 14.20 percent
The dark, vigorous roses of Tavel in the Southern Rhône Valley aren’t to everyone’s brim. They are more convenient than eating as an aperitif next to water. But this bottle is the perfect example of a bold, strong rose style that was once popular but is somewhat lost in today’s world of pale rosé. A pale maraschino color, this wine is 60 percent grenache, 30 percent klairette and 10 percent syrah. Dry with only fruit and flower aromas and a rich mineral recommendation. Fabien Jouves Vin de France Rose À Painting!!! 2021, 12.23 dollars
Fabien Jouves makes some of my favorites Cahors wines Under the Mas del Périe label. Under its own name À Table!!! It produces a range of natural wines such as, essentially, a dinner party you’ll want to make with this dark rose. It is made from malbec, the grape of Cahors, and two other grapes, tannat and merlot, which are widely used in southwestern France, and are all biodynamically grown. It is fresh and deliciously complex, with earthy aromas and flavors of red fruit and flowers. (Zev Rovine Selections, Brooklyn, NY)

AT Roca makes excellent sparkling wines in Catalonia, wines that were collectively referred to as cava until many of the top producers stopped using the term, shunning the mass-produced connotation. instead of roca Classic Penedes, a designation for sparkling wines with strict regulations, including a requirement for organic viticulture. This rosat (Catalan for rosado, which means rosé in Spanish) is made like a Champagne with a second fermentation in the bottle. Bone dry, floral and extremely refreshing.
