Apple is refreshing its iPad lineup as its annual product event kicks off.

Apple on Tuesday unveiled a new version of its entry-level $300 iPad with a 10.2-inch display.

The iPad was the first gadget to be showcased at the company’s annual product event to pave the way for holiday sales. The new tablet highlights video calls, a popular use for devices during the pandemic. The new version includes improved cameras and special software to make video calls more enjoyable by detecting people and automatically tracking their movements.

Apple has also updated its smaller $500 tablet, the iPad Mini, giving it a new design and a bigger, brighter display. It now features straight edges that match the aesthetics of the new iPhones, and the home button has been removed to make more room for the 8.3-inch screen.

The new tablets join an already crowded iPad portfolio. The company currently offers five iPad models in a variety of screen sizes, with prices ranging from $300 to $2,400.

iPad has been Apple’s fastest growing product segment in the last 12 months as more people buy the device while they have to work, learn and socialize from home during the pandemic. In the 12 months ended June 30, Apple earned $30.4 billion from iPad sales, up 41 percent year-on-year.
