SAN RAMON, California – A federal judge ordered Apple Removing part of the competitive roadblock protecting the closely-knit app store that threatens one of the iPhone maker’s biggest moneymakers.

It could also have the potential to save billions of dollars, which could encourage app developers to lower the prices paid by consumers.

The challenge was made by Epic Games, known as the maker of the popular video game Fortnite, played by nearly 400 million people worldwide.

Apple Shares plunged sharply after the decision was published and were trading down 3% on Friday.

Headquartered in Cary, North Carolina, Epic is a privately held company.
