From Easter brunches to church sunrises to egg hunts and everything in between, there’s something very special about family traditions leading up to Easter. I’ve gathered some activity ideas to make Easter week rich in meaning yet simple in effort. Perhaps one or two will inspire your family for years to come and become a tradition.
“He is not here because He rose from the dead as He said.” Matthew 28:6
Read the Scriptures. What a great week to read the entire Bible. You can read 2-3 chapters of Mark every day until Easter. we love too Jesus Storybook Bible for kids free Borrowing Guide to Reading.
Memorize a passage from the Scriptures. A passage like John 11:25-26 might be good to memorize this weekend!
Make an Easter garden. Make a garden with your kids to share the story of the Bible, using things from your backyard or neighborhood walk. This Message it will show you the symbolic things you can use. We’ve got How-to video on Instagram.
Worship with music. Turn on your favorite worship music! Maybe learn a new hymn! I’ve been listening to Ellie Holcomb’s Spotify playlist “A Holy Week” this week. This Message It has all my favorite Spotify and Pandora stations for adults and kids. And this Message It’s packed with sweet audiobooks for toddlers and more.
Worship with art. Have the children show the Easter story after reading it. Or use sidewalk chalk to make colorful crosses on the sidewalk. My older girls would often use their sketchbooks to paint a cross and log their thoughts, so if you have older kids give this a try! There are also a lot of ideas on Instagram and Pinterest.
I love your neighbor. Show the love of Christ by loving your neighbor. Invite an elderly neighbor or friend who doesn’t have a family in town for Easter brunch. Consider other ways you can serve.
Make a cross for your front door or front yard. Use branches, palm leaves or flowers you find in your backyard and gift them to your doorstep or neighbors.
Make hot cross buns or resurrection rolls. There are many recipes on the Internet!
Host an Easter brunch! It’s a really nice tradition!
To watch Selected. This series about the life of Jesus came highly recommended. It’s available by downloading the app from the App Store and then watching it on your phone or streaming it to your TV via Apple TV or Roku. I think it’s best for middle/high school and up because there are some dark scenes. Preview it first to make sure it’s suitable for your child.
to watch something Jesus Movie. There is a children’s version here. (I do not recommend for children under 8 years old, do not watch without showing.)

Visit your church website. They probably have resources for Easter Week. And if you’re looking for a great option, our church has resources for kindergarten, preschool and primary school age children. Videos, printables and more. Everyone is welcome!
Participate in Maundy Thursday. Celebrate the Last Supper and share its meaning with your children.
Share the good news. How can you share this week’s good news? Many need to know that Jesus offers hope in a seemingly hopeless world. Send cards, call your friends, and share the good news with everyone you can.
Attend church on Easter Sunday.
