“Even today, developers around the world believe The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has influenced the way they create games,” said digital games curator Andrew Borman. “The game’s sprawling 3D world, fluid combat, intricate puzzles, and time-changing storyline combine to inspire a miracle that players will never forget.”
Sid Meier’s Civilization, released in 1991, is considered an effective simulation and strategy game. Inviting players to develop their own empires, the game has launched a series of successor games, including the latest Civilization: Beyond Earth and Civilization VI.
“The addictive nature of the game, which creator Sid Meier himself called the ‘one more turn’ quality, and the nearly limitless options that discourage replay games, made Civilization from Computer Gaming World in 1996 the best video game of all time,” he said.
