OnlyFans, a site where fans pay creators for their photos and videos, plans to ban “obscene” content.
A spokesperson said the ban will begin on October 1 and is the result of requests from banking partners and companies that handle financial transactions.
However, nudity is okay if it’s “consistent” with the company’s policy. It is unclear what this policy is, and the company did not answer questions. OnlyFans will share more information “in the coming days”.
OnlyFans has become famous as a space where celebrities can interact with people on a personal level, and a place where sex workers can post and get paid relatively safely.
It is not available as an app in the Apple and Google stores, which prohibit pornography. OnlyFans has sought to distance itself from its association with porn and recently announced an OFTV streaming app, available for download from major tech platforms and offering content around categories such as fitness, cooking, comedy, and music.
OnlyFans says it has 130 million users and 2 million creators who collectively make $5 billion.
