Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is taking a hiatus from Twitter, saying the responses from people on her social media app are causing her concern.
A New York Democrat was outraged after he was spotted drinking with actor Billy Porter in Miami earlier last month, without wearing a mask. On January 9, he tested positive for COVID-19.
“When I got COVID, I turned off all my devices, which means I wasn’t that much on social media or anything like that. And when I went back to turning Twitter back on, I found that it didn’t really make me (happy),” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said on Instagram on Monday night. ‘in. “I would go to open the app and almost felt anxious. People fight and gossip and all that other stuff. There’s a lot of negative negativity out there. ”
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez continues to advocate for strict mask-wearing policies, but she is not the only politician who does not follow her own rules.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti were spotted unmasked at the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is under investigation for hosting parties that violate quarantine protocols.
