As we approached Valentine’s Day, I wanted DIY projects that were equal parts festive, fun, and oh so easy. I love adding fresh greenery around my house – even better if the next holiday is themed no matter what! I also love all the heart wreaths you can find in stores and online right now (buy my favorites below!). So I created an arrangement that is the best of both worlds! And the best part is that you don’t need to have a green thumb to do it.
I have summarized all the steps as well as the materials you will need. This would be perfect in your own home and even better to give as a gift! If you’re looking for a little something to give to your child’s teacher or a neighbor or friend for Valentine’s Day, then this can be perfectly paired with a gift card or a sweet treat. You can also make one with your kids to give to grandparents!

Step 1: Gather the materials.
A quick stop at Michaels and your local nursery will provide you with what you need!
- 6-7″ pots. I have repurposed the 6.75″ flower pot I have on hand, but you can find something similar at a local garden store or order online here! The 6-7″ size is best so the heart fits snugly. Make sure you have floral wire and moss too!
- 3 small ivy plants. Choose plants with the tallest vines you can find!
- Flower wire. Cut into 3″ strips (about 8-10 strips total).
- Moss.
- Vine heart wreath.
Step 2: Potted plants.
Pull some of the dirt from the bottom of each ivy plant and put it in the pot. Equally spaced from each other as if the pot was divided into three.
Step 3: Place the vine heart wreath in the center of the pot.
It will shake a little – no problem! Finally we will stabilize it with moss.
Step 4: Wrap the vines around the wreath.
Take a vine and gently wrap the wreath until you reach the end. Take a piece of floral wire and twist it around the vine, tuck the sharp ends into the wreath. Repeat, making sure to go in different directions with the vine. If you have any surpluses, you can prune the vines. I love a bit of a wild look with my edits!
Step 5: Fill with seaweed.
Fill the pot with moss. Glue moss under the vine wreath to add support and some support. You can also cut two small pieces of floral styrofoam and place them under the wreath on either side of the pot for additional support. This would be a good idea if you’re carrying the arrangement for a gift! Otherwise, if you’re enjoying it at home, moss is sufficient support for an arrangement on the kitchen or coffee table.
Tip: The vine will continue to grow, so you may need to keep pinning the ends to “train” the vine.
