WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House review, senior scientist Dr. Eric Lander has found credible evidence of violating the “Safe and Respectful Workplace Policy,” but management plans to keep him in business after consulting him.
An internal review sparked by a workplace complaint last year found evidence that Lander, director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy and President Biden’s science adviser, bullied and disrespected employees. This led to Biden contradicting his initial directive that he expects “honesty and honesty” from everyone working for his administration and that he will fire anyone “on the spot” who shows disrespect to others.
The White House said senior management officials had spoken to Lander about his actions and the administration of the office. He said Lander and OSTP should take specific corrective action as part of the review.

The White House said the review did not find “credible evidence” of gender-based discrimination and that the reassignment of staff members who made the initial complaint was “seemed appropriate”.
On Friday, Lander apologized to those working in his office and said, “I spoke in a disrespectful or derogatory manner to my colleagues within the OSTP.”
“I’m very sorry for my behavior,” he added. “I would like to apologize especially to anyone I misbehaved or was there at the time.”
Lander, whose position was promoted to Cabinet rank by Biden, stood out with the president last week when he relaunched the “Cancer Moonshot” program to pool the federal resources behind research and treatment for cancer diseases.
