The idea for the exhibition had been around for a while, but in the summer of 2020 a call from the Cambridge Arts Council for projects addressing racial and social injustice compelled him to take action. He connected with a local poet, which he now manages 21 participants: scholars (including Daniel Chonde ’07, Huili Chen, SM ’18 and Shannon Johnson, SM ’19), poets, and a MassArt student and photographer.
For Sariñana, who has always seen science, communication and art intertwined, “The Poetry of Science” is a chance to show this to the public and perhaps inspire future generations. “When I was a kid, I didn’t have many models to look at who were colorists,” she says. “There is an extraordinary opportunity for science and art to work together to bring complex and seemingly inaccessible ideas to the public, and this project [one] way to do it.”
