VAN HORN, Texas (AP) — Hollywood’s 90-year-old Captain Kirk, William Shatner, blasts off into space as science fiction and science reality come together. On Wednesday morning, she sailed for the final frontier on a ship built by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company.

The “Star Trek” hero becomes the oldest person to ride a rocket.

The fully automated spacecraft is set to reach altitudes of 66 miles in the West Texas desert. The up-and-down flight will take about 10 minutes, and Shatner and his three friends will parachute back to Earth inside the capsule.

This is a developing story.
