California governor Gavin Newsom joins Trump’s social media, sworn in

California Governor Gavin Newsom wants to tease his Republican opponents in a new venue – Truth Social, former President Donald Trump’s social media platform.

The Democratic leader of Golden State has made clear his desire for digital sparring in an announcement on Twitter.

“I just joined Trump’s Truth Social. “The Republic will be there to scream out its lies,” Mr Newsom said on Twitter. “This… could be interesting.”

After joining Truth Social, Mr. Newsom said his first post would detail what he sees as “America’s red state murder problem.”

“I know we are all on this platform to seek the truth, but the truth is that I could not find a simple explanation for the fact that we have a red state murder problem,” Mr Newsom said. The video posted on Twitter on Thursday.

Some Republicans were outraged at the governor’s comment. Tamika Hamilton, a California Republican sitting in the congressional seat, scolded the governor for her priorities.

“Crime is at an all-time high and I paid over $6.00 per gallon for gas the other day, but I’m sure our Governor has time to troll social media,” Ms Hamilton said on Twitter.
