Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said on Monday she took to Twitter to censor Facebook’s online speech.
Facebook said this weekend it did not remove the congressman’s account, unlike Twitter, which suspended his personal account.
Ms. Greene posted a picture on Gettr that shows Facebook has blocked her from posting or commenting. His appearance on the alternative social media platform Gettr showed that the suspension would last for 24 hours.
“Facebook joined Twitter to censor me. This goes beyond censorship of speech,” Ms. Greene said at Gettr. “I am an elected Member of Congress representing more than 700,000 tax-paying U.S. citizens, and I represent their voices, their values, defend their freedom, and protect the Constitution.”
A spokesperson for Facebook’s parent company Meta said the company did not delete Ms. Greene’s account.
“A post violated our policies and we removed it; however, removing your account for this violation is beyond the scope of our policies.”
