Who are the other team members?
Hayley Arceneaux At age 29, St. Physician assistant at Jude Children’s Research Hospital. About twenty years ago, La., St. Arceneaux, who grew up in the small town of Francisville, was diagnosed with bone cancer in her left leg, just above the knee. Jude was a patient. Ms. Arceneaux underwent chemotherapy and an operation to install prosthetic leg bones.
Miss Arceneaux may be the youngest American to ever travel into orbit. He will also be the first prosthetic body part to go into space. Your post will be the paramedic.
Sian Proctor, 51 is a community college professor from Tempe, Ariz.
With a PhD in science education, Dr. Proctor was among 47 finalists selected by NASA for the astronaut class in 2009. The space agency selected nine new astronauts that year, but Dr. Proctor was not one of them.
She will be a pilot on the Inspiration4 mission and will be the first Black woman to pilot a spacecraft.
Christopher Sembroski, Age 42, Everett, Wash., working in data engineering for Lockheed Martin. Mr. Sembroski worked as a consultant at Space Camp during his college years. He will be Inspiration4’s mission specialist.
How do they get into orbit?
Inspiration4’s four crew members will be inside a Crew Dragon capsule built by SpaceX. The capsule will be launched onto one of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rockets.
It’s exactly the same system used to get NASA astronauts to the International Space Station. Indeed, the capsule they are in, called Resilience, was used for a NASA mission launched in November last year. It returned to Earth in May and was refurbished for the Inspiration4 mission.
