Timeline Set for New Syndication Vote at Amazon Warehouse in Alabama

Amazon workers in Alabama will have one more chance to vote to form a union this winter, as the National Labor Relations Board schedules a mail-in election to begin February 4.

The agency said Tuesday that workers will have until March 25 to present their votes. The institution will count the votes on March 28.

Workers at an Amazon warehouse near Birmingham, known as BHM1, voted against forming a union last spring after a highly contentious and public campaign. The jobs agency threw out the results after it found that Amazon improperly interfered with the election, opening the door for a new vote.

The agency told workers on Tuesday that in the first vote, Amazon “interfered with the free and rational choice of workers” by installing a mailbox at the warehouse, “creating the appearance of disorder” and polling workers. their opinion. Saying that the mailbox was designed to facilitate voting, Amazon did not object to the re-election decision.

The prominent organizational work was carried out by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Stores Association. He caught the attention of politicians and other figures as he aimed to form the first union in one of the country’s largest employers.

Amazon spokesperson Barbara Agrait said in a statement that Amazon “employees always have the choice of whether or not to join a union, and they overwhelmingly choose not to.” He added that the company looks forward to “having their voices heard again” by the workers.

The union said in a statement that it had asked the agency to provide “a set of solutions that could give workers a fairer process” in the new election, but the agency did not approve of those demands. “We are deeply concerned that the decision does not sufficiently prevent Amazon from continuing its objectionable behavior in a new election,” the union said.

Promising to be “the world’s best employer,” the company faces worker pressure on many fronts. He said he would spend $4 billion in the holiday quarter alone to deal with the labor shortage. Workers in Staten Island are also trying to unionize, and last month Amazon and the labor board signed a deal. unusually wide A nationwide settlement that gives workers more power to organize.
