Three COVID-19 suspects, censored on Twitter, have sued the Biden administration to block requests for information on their social media accounts.
An injunction motion filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio on Wednesday argues that Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra do not have legal authority over requests for technology platforms to provide them with “information about resources.” Until May 2, Covid-19 misinformation”.
The motion claims that the March 3 request came as “the culmination of nearly a year of public campaigning in which President Joseph Biden, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, among others, made numerous threatening statements against social media.” Platforms that do not censor “anything other than Government-approved messaging regarding COVID-19.”
According to court documents, Twitter suspended plaintiff Daniel Kotzin on March 7 and permanently banned plaintiff Michael Senger on March 8. Mark suspended Changizi in April, June and December last year.
“The timing of these events, along with the one-sided nature of the censorship, makes it clear that Twitter suspended the Claimants out of fear of retaliation from the Government,” the motion said.
The New Civil Liberties Alliance, a neutral public interest law firm, filed the original complaint last Thursday seeking determination and injunctive relief.
The Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
