8 Tips for Family Beach Photos (Plus 30A Photographer!)

30a family photographer Our trips to 30A have provided the perfect backdrop for family photos over the years – beautiful white sands, crystal blue water and, of course, sunshine. Today I wanted to share a great 30A photographer, Brenna KneissWho makes family photo sessions a breeze, along with eight tips for successful family beach photos!

1. Think beyond the beach!

Let’s face it: a walk to the beach at Halloween time isn’t always fun. You also have to deal with the wind, which can be a problem for your hair during beach photo shoots. So consider the front porch of your vacation rental or the charming path to the beach – both will make a beautiful backdrop for a photo shoot.

At 30A, Grayton Beach State Park has nice spots for photo ops, as do many neighborhoods. My cousins took family photos Brenna In Rosemary Beach with Rosemary Beach in the background they came out green and so cute!

2. Don’t fight nap time.

A long day in the sun can make kids cranky. Therefore, allow young children plenty of time to take a nap or rest (and a snack) before a session.

3. Choose a natural color palette.

White is always popular for beach photos, but soothing colors that harmonize with Mother Nature’s palette also work well. And if you don’t want everyone to choose something from the same color family. And always avoid heavy patterns in beach photos!

4. Make sure the clothes cover the tan lines.

Photoshop is always a post photo option, but it’s best to avoid this problem altogether!

5. Make sure the girls are wearing diapers or blunders.

If kids are being held by their parents or surfing, you don’t want their underwear or diapers showing. my girls always wear those blooming and they look cute if they get into a photo.

On that note, if women are wearing white or light colors, check that the clothes are not visible with that golden hour light. A slip or better underwear may be needed, so be sure to pack one if needed.

6. If possible, book your trip early.

That way you can have time to reschedule if it rains. And if you book your vacation earlier, you can avoid the “sunburn look” in the photos.

7. Give yourself plenty of time to prepare.

Getting everyone ready for family photos (the four girls!), and especially at the beach when I’m not at home, takes a lot more time than I always thought. I forget to iron or need to find a lost shoe. And rushing leads to stress that can be shown in photos. Try to arrange everything the night before to avoid stress and crises.

8. Bring accessories that organically fit into the shoot.

Seashells work great as a distraction for little hands during beach photos, but don’t leave it to chance for you to see one in your session. You may want to take a few with you and strategically place them so your child can “find” them during portraits. Cute shovels and sand buckets work too!
