CEO says Twitter adds Elon Musk to board

Twitter adds Tesla CEO Elon Musk to its board of directors, putting the social media platform’s eccentric critic and user in a leadership position to influence business decisions at the company.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal announced on Tuesday that the inclusion of Mr. Musk on the board comes after weeks of discussions with the electric vehicle and space travel tycoon.

“He is both a passionate believer and an intense critic of the service we need to make us stronger in the long run, both on @Twitter and in the boardroom,” said Mr. Agrawal. “Welcome Elon!”

Mr. Musk took a 9.2% passive stake in Twitter, purchasing approximately 73.5 million shares, according to a regulatory filing on Monday. The investment was valued at an estimated $2.9 billion before news that Twitter was chasing drove the company’s stock price up during trading on Monday.

Mr Musk told Mr Agrawal on Twitter that he looks forward to working with him and making “significant improvements to Twitter in the coming months.”

Mr. Musk relied on his Twitter to inform his thoughts on the platform.

Last month, she surveyed her followers as to whether Twitter is committed to free speech, and they overwhelmingly answered no. He then responded with open questions about whether a new platform was needed and what to do.

After Mr. Musk’s stake on Twitter trended as a topic of conversation among users on Monday, he posed a new question asking if people wanted an edit button. Mr. Musk’s tweet received nearly 3 million votes in 12 hours.
