Facebook briefly flagged Representative Richard Hudson’s post about the US military

Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday briefly flagged posts by a North Carolina congressman that included a chart showing a breakdown of US military equipment inventory lost during the Taliban takeover. AfghanistanThey said it contained “false information”.

The move to censor the post by Republican Republican Richard Hudson came amid reports that the Biden administration was exposing online reports detailing equipment the US military had supplied to Afghan security forces throughout the war, some of which had been seized by the Taliban. .

FacebookInstagram’s parent company later raised its flags on the posts, but the legislator’s spokesman, Greg Steele, said his actions on social media sites were alarming.

“Joe Biden has promised the most transparent administration in history, but is reportedly trying to clear information about his disastrous withdrawal. Afghanistan and the remaining equipment,” said Mr. Steele. “My fear Facebook I was also trying to keep the truth away from people but I’m glad they fixed the mislabeling.”

Hudson’s graphic was originally published by the Sunday Times and details the number and types of equipment seized by the Taliban.

Mr. Hudson accompanied the chart with a short commentary that included:

“In addition to thousands of Americans and allies, AfghanistanPresident Biden’s disastrous withdrawal also left billions of dollars in military equipment paid for by American taxpayers in the hands of the brutal Taliban regime. Thanks to President Biden, the Taliban now own more Black Hawk helicopters than 85% of the countries in the world. This is a disgrace.”

On Tuesday, The Washington Post confirmed certain claims regarding the total dollar value of the equipment delivered. Altogether, the United States provided more than $80 billion in supplies and training to the Afghan war effort, but only a relatively small portion of that total comprised the weapons, helicopters, vehicles and equipment that US troops abandoned during last month’s hasty evacuation.

The Mail, however, did not specifically object to the inventory being delivered, but noted that some equipment may be “obsolete or destroyed – or soon unusable.” Mr. Hudson’s original post did not contain a dollar figure.

“While the accuracy controllers disputed the full dollar amount of remaining equipment, Afghanistan (our total investment of $82.9 billion is estimated at $24 billion) Afghanistan), there is no conflict in the inventory of vehicles, weapons and aircraft of taxpayers sent to the USA. Afghanistan Mr. Hudson, in the last twenty years Facebook flagged the post.

“These figures have been compiled by the U.S. Government Accounting Office and the Special Inspector for Afghan Reconstruction. Censoring these facts is ridiculous!” said.

Facebook He did not provide an explanation to Mr Hudson’s office as to why the post was originally flagged and why the flag was removed. The company did not respond to the Washington Times’ request for comment.
