SAN FRANCISCO – Facebook and its family of apps were inaccessible Friday afternoon, the second time in a week that the social network had widespread problems with its services.
site DownDetector.comA service that relied on reports from users to determine if websites were experiencing problems showed that all of Facebook’s main products – Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook’s “big blue app” were experiencing outages around 3 PM Eastern time.
“We are aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” the company said on Twitter. We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience.”
Facebook said Friday’s outage was not related to the problems the company experienced on Monday, when apps were down globally for more than five hours. This has created fallout among people who use the apps to communicate and run their business.
