Facebook may be rebranding.
The social media giant plans to change its name next week, according to a report. report Tuesday.
Citing a “source with direct knowledge of the matter,” The Verge reported that the Silicon Valley company wanted to be known for what it called the “focus on building the metaverse” of tech broadcasting, rather than social media.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to speak at the company’s annual Connect conference on Oct. 28 about the name change and related rebranding plans, but the move could be made public before that, The Verge reported.
“The new brand will position the blue Facebook app as one of many products under a parent company that oversees groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and more,” The Verge said.
Facebook declined to comment on The Verge’s story.
The article did not say what the new name would be.
Mr. Zuckerberg told The Verge in an interview in July that the company he founded will “effectively move from seeing people primarily as a social media company to being a metaverse company.”
