Numerous prominent liberals complained Monday evening that they were losing Twitter followers in the hours after business tycoon Elon Musk’s announcement that he would buy the social media service.

Neera Tanden, a failed Biden administration candidate and high-profile Hillary Clinton supporter, started The ball rolled in saying he had just lost 2000 followers. Anyone else losing followers?”

Gun control activist David Hogg quickly replied in agreement.

“Oh, I thought there were some really bad shots I posted but I guess I’m not alone today -3000,” he wrote.

“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill retweeted Ms. Tanden’s query, quoting it, and said things were “weird”.

“I’ve lost over 8,000 followers in the last few hours. Was it something I said?” Mr. Hamill he asked.

All three Twitter accounts are extremely popular and have so many followers that they routinely gain and lose a lot. On Monday night, after her inquiries, Ms. Tanden’s account had almost 394,000 followers, Mr Hogg had over 1.1 million followers and Mr Hamill had 5 million followers.

None of the three people blamed Mr Musk or referred to the purchase, but one prominent liberal did.

“I’m in more or less the same situation (in proportion) – around 1800. I don’t know if it’s dead robots or people afraid of Elon finding out they’re following me.” I said former MSNBC presenter Keith Olbermann.

Conservatives routinely complain that Twitter is “shadow-banning” their accounts, purging their followers, and censoring their content under the pretext of “hate speech” and “harassment.”

Additionally, numerous liberal accounts have reacted to the Musk buyout and/or the prospect of doing just that, saying they’d leave the platform, but conservatives mostly won the liberals’ Donald Trump or George W. Bush Presidential election.
